Kits For Peace aims to raise awareness of homelessness while doing something tangible that all members of your community can participate in. We have made and distributed more than 10,000 bags to date. Here is how it works:
The kits start with bags that are sewn by refugee women and community members in the greater Seattle area. Once sewn, the kits are assembled by volunteers and local organizations. Assembled and ready to go, the kits are given to community members and shelters for folks who might be in need. This means that from beginning to end, the bags provide empowerment to people.
Standard Items in each kit include:
- A gift/food card
- A rain poncho
- An emergency blanket
- A granola bar
- Lip balm
- Hand sanitizer
- Tissue paper
- Mouth freshener
- Hand/toe warmers
- A Kits for Peace card that has the numbers and locations of your local shelters, emergency hotlines, and fire department.
We look at community and organization needs so upon request each kit may also include:
- Sanitary items for women
- Shaving materials
- Warm blankets
- Sleeping bags
*sizes of each bag may vary based on the items
